A stop at Yu Garden and a city where the past sits alongside the present.
Shanghai brought the past and the present into the same chapter. There was the practical discovery that I could use TNG here, and then there was Yu Garden: a place whose story began with Pan Yunduan wanting to build something for his parents.
Learning about the changes the garden had been through left me with a thought I shared in the caption. Things don’t always turn out the way we imagine. Even a place made with one purpose can go on to have a very different story.
